Stay safe on the slip roads
|
Joining the M11 at Duxford this afternoon I was flagged down by a driver at the side of the road. I drove past at first, thinking I'd read about some slip road scam but my conscience got the better of me and I stopped. The said driver approached my car, handed me an unconvincing business card, and told me he'd broken down. He tried to hand me a gold ring off his finger as proof he could be trusted and immediately I smelt a rat. I drove off down the slip road and phoned the law leaving him gesticulating at me wildly to clear off. I cant remember the details of the scam, but just to say, beware the slip road scammer.
Dons tin hat, waits for batallions of whoers to drag a battery of single entendres from the text.

This scam is going on in Bristol but I forgot all about it until I read this.
About a month or so ago I was just walking to the gym on a quiet Sunday and this bloke walked past me and started saying something. I slowed down as he seemed normal looking and I thought wanted directions rather than just begging for bus fares or loose change. He gets a bit of paper out of his pocket and then starts up with the old "just broke down about 400m up the road and need petrol money routine".
I just started laughing and said "nah mate" without even stopping as there were loads of cash points round there and he'd clearly already walked Into the centre of town past a shell garage so it was bullshit.
This was just near the M32 coming as you come into the city.

Did you both haggle first?
Unless there's at least one old hag involved, the mainstream media won't be able to spin any "tales of sexual exploitation" into the story and will show no interest in it.

The card was a printed white card with a phone number and I remember seeing Germany at the end of the address. As to his services, I didn't enquire.

It was on the BBC a while ago. The scam happened on a slip road off the M54. Bloke stopped to help and took the stranded driver off to a cash point. Driver has no card. I can't remember what happened next but either accomplices were waiting for the driver or his card details were stolen. Google it. I tried, to no avail. Anyway the woman who answered the 999 call seemed to know what it was all about. Happening around the country evifdently.
By the way Nurse. You're right. Everyone should be wary of me. ;-)

Nobody normal joins the M11 at any junction - the rest of the op is par for the course I'm afraid.

How can I beware the slip road scam when you have left me no wiser as to what it involves?
All you have described to me is an opportunistic jewellery mugging of a would-be 'scam artist', with no proof that the man intended any harm.
I think we ought to beware YOU. You sound like a menace.
